Enjoy quality time together in a setting that combines the beauty of nature and the atmosphere of Shabbat. Meet new friends and spend time with your family in a relaxed and informal setting. All meals and snacks are kosher – Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast. Nighttime coverage is provided so that adults may socialize.

Why is this weekend different from all other weekends?

On this weekend, Congregation Shaarey Zedek families join together to experience Shabbat at the Butzel Conference Center at Camp Tamarack. Located in the picturesque Ortonville, Butzel provides an ideal setting for relaxation, community building, prayer, learning, and fun. On this weekend we’ll leave the distractions at home, and focus on family and friends. Throughout the weekend, we will engage in both intergenerational and age-level programs.

Who will be running this event?

We’re thrilled that Rabbi Starr and Allison Gutman will lead this wonderful weekend along with members of the Camp Tamarack team.

Who can participate?

This exciting and interactive weekend program has been designed especially for families with children in grades K-7…there will be programming specifically for adults and for children in grades K-7 as well as family time to learn and play together! In addition, for younger and older siblings who join us, we will be providing age appropriate programs for children ages 2-5 and older children will help play leadership roles with the younger participants. Children ages two and under are welcome to join us. Please don’t hesitate to contact Allison Gutman at with questions.

Where will we sleep (yes…the buildings are heated with plumbing)?

The hotel-like guestrooms at Butzel each have a queen sized bed, twin bed, twin roll-away, and a private bathroom. All linens and towels are provided. Each guesthouse also has its own flat screen TV with cable and DVD player.

What will we eat?

From Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast we will share meals together in the comfort of Butzel’s heated dining hall. Special dietary needs may be accommodated, but please indicate your requirements on the registration form. All meals and snacks are included with registration.
