Doorway to Freedom: Detroit and the Underground Railroad

February 20, 2022
10:00 am - 11:30 am

The CSZ Equity Task Force invites you for a virtual, curator-led tour of the Detroit Historical Museum exhibit, Doorway to Freedom.

Detroit was a pivotal part of the Underground Railroad, an informal network of safe houses and people willing to help runaway enslaved people. From our many cultural and religious organizations to the numerous historic markets that have been dedicated over the years, the city has always been at the forefront of acknowledging the people, places and events that helped us earn our reputation as the Doorway to Freedom. Code named “Midnight” by Underground Railroad “conductors,” Detroit provided access to Canada across the Detroit River.
