Stephanie Steinberg on The Written Word TO God: Creative Writing as a Spiritual Experience
In the West, we have been taught that God speaks to us through the written word of sacred text. What if we could speak back in the same way? Rabbi Dahlen sits down with founder and Director of the Detroit Writing Room, Stephanie Steinberg, to talk about the emotional, psychological, and yes, spiritual benefits of creating and sustaining a practice of writing.

Stephanie Steinberg is the founder and CEO of The Detroit Writing Room.  She’s also the executive director of the nonprofit Coaching Detroit Forward, which offers free writing and photography programs for Detroit high school students.  

Formerly, she was the managing editor of SEEN Magazine, and a a features reporter at The Detroit News, where she covered the revitalization of Detroit. She spent several years as the assistant editor of the health and money sections at U.S. News & World Report in Washington D.C.
Stephanie studied communications and medical anthropology at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor. She spent four years as a reporter and editor for The Michigan Daily.

Her second book, In the Name of Editorial Freedom: 125 Years at The Michigan Daily, was released   in September 2015 by the University of Michigan Press.
